The B5900, a Bridge to 21st Century Computing

I was very impressed by this website that describes life in the Burroughs Corporation some years ago: The B5900, a Bridge to 21st Century Computing. I knew at least one of the people mentioned. I suspect that some of the description would be controversial in some quarters. By the way, for those of you on dialup, this is a huge page full of pictures.

I just found the B5900 story myself. I found enlightening not the least of which is that I finally found out who the actors were in the Santa Barbara plant closing. I was a system engineer there at the time. I knew the folks mentioned from SBP, and worked with two of the Mission Viejo people mentioned later in my career. I asked one of the those folks about the article. The only cogent comment I got back was that the author got the internals of the B6900 wrong - and my source is authoritative.

I found the story itself engaging - and it reminded me of "Soul of a New Machine."
